Approximately one year after publically committing to the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) in 2017, Constantia Flexibles has asked SBTi to assess their target. After careful review the submitted target has now been approved, making Constantia Flexibles one of only 133 companies worldwide and one of four companies in the container & packaging sector which have set targets officially approved as science based.
Targets adopted by companies to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are considered “science-based” if they are in line with the level of decarbonization required to keep global temperature increase below 2 degrees Celsius compared to pre- industrial temperatures.
Setting an ambitions target in line with climate science demonstrates Constantia Flexibles’ dedication to play our part in international efforts to limit global temperature rise and to continuously improve sustainability performance across the value chain.
The Science Based Targets initiative is a collaboration between the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and one of the We Mean Business Coalition commitments and champions science-based target setting as a powerful way of boosting companies’ competitive advantage in the transition to the low-carbon economy.
